Hydrotherapy really works
Regardless of the environment, whether in horse racing, veterinary
or general recreation, hydrotherapy has been shown to be effective
in treating horses for:
Tendon and ligament injuries
Laminitis
Laceration and flesh wound infections
Bone damage
Fractures and splints
Joint conditions
Jar-up and concussion
Post surgery conditions
Poor hoof growth
Results you can trust
Independent studies have shown that natural hypertonic cold water
spa therapy is a valuable aid, with or without the involvement of
other treatments.
Prof. E. R Hunt*, at the University of Sydney in Australia, has
provided evidence for improved equine responses to controlled cold
water spa and added salt. The combined influence of hypertonicity,
the massage effect of agitation, cold, and the effect of pressure
from the depth of water helps in fluid dispersal and skin wound
repair more than any factor on their own. In cases involving lower
limb inflammation, especially where alternative drug therapy was
not an option, spa therapy has a positive impact. In more severe
cases, the combined approach of spa therapy with a carefully managed
training programme also aids the recovery process.
